I conceived the idea of Jagannatha Swami Comix around the time I entered my studies in graphic design. Prior to this I had spent a good deal of time at the local Hare Krishna temple. In fact, so much as to seriously considering the option of rejecting everything in the outside world and dedicating myself to a monastic life. Well, as it turned out this wasn't the path meant for me.

Still the teachings and ways of conduct of the Krishna people appealed greatly to me. Thus, wanting to share this very valuable discovery with everyone I did what I at the moment did best: started drawing.

After years of working on the project in an on/off fashion I finally felt I had created something worth publishing. So I took all the money I had been saving from my day-time job and printed what would be the first issue of Jagannatha Swami Comix. Then I quit my job and packet my car, the trunk filled with boxes upon boxes of comics, sold them in the streets to whoever I could convince to stop. Traveling either alone, or with the occasional friend I toured Finland from North to South, East to West.

Retrospectively, with some experience under my belt I sometimes wonder what made me do this. Quitting a perfectly decent job, spending all my money on printing a comic book about eastern philosophy in English doesn't sound like the best kind of article to base your future on. But somehow by the grace of God it worked, and we're still here.

Within the 32 pages of Jagannatha Swami Comix the story of a dying man encounterin a Hindu monk is being told. Within the main story various substories appear, forming a nice whole. Among the reviews it got the one that appeared in Factsheet Five can be quoted:

"Christoffer Leka introduces the precepts of Krishna Consciousness through an engaging series of Disney characters. He employs Peter Pan figures to explain how people are etrapped by the lust of material objects losing their way in life, yet refusing to follow another's lead. Then the Big Bad Wolf follows pure sense gratification, chasing after the succulent pigs lifetime after lifetime, never learning a thing. One of the more clever Krishna pieces I've seen."
