Mikko Hassinen, mostly known as a jazz drummer, builds on an electro basis on his warm-spirited Damodara EP that ranges from drum'n bass spiced with saxophone to Hammond-inspired lounge. The rich compositions as well as Johanna Niemelä's singing deserve compliments. They are accompanied by such studio musicians as Sami Kuoppamäki and Mongo Aaltonen. The colorful opening track Govinda has become my favorite. Soundi 3/2000 It is scarier to listen to Hare Krishna music than to play a heavy metal album backwards. You never know, you mightstart to believe in it. Damodara's second album 4 songs is a pleasing way to compare your prejudices with reality. The album contains three light drum'n bass tracks that combine jazz influences with 60's and 70's hippie tunes. The fourth is a joyous lounge exploration by saxophone, Hammond organ and drums. Mikko Hassinen, the composer, has used competent musicians, among them Johanna Niemelä, who sings softly and exotically in the honor of Govinda. Helsingin Sanomat/Nyt-attachment 25/2/2000 * * * 1.
